Distinctives of The Fish GatePart 2: Grace and LawBeing a member of God’s family is entirely a matter of Grace. Grace is essentially the outworking of God’s nature which can not be fully described or explained. Certainly to describe God’s grace merely as “the unmerited favour of God” is deficient. The church is therefore a community of grace; initiated and sustained by God’s goodness and life. Consequently, The Fish Gate purposes to display and operate in this grace. (Ephesians 2:11-13). We are therefore ministers of this grace (2Cor 2:14-3:18). Note here that Paul describes himself as servant of a new covenant not of the letter (Law). For the letter kills (v6) but the Spirit gives life. The Law is only a portion of the glory and it fades. Once asked to imagine 1Cor 13 re: love replace with myself. Sounds good but reality is faded. Moses saw God’s glory in the law but it faded. The Spirit on the other hand gives life (v8). Moses saw God’s glory, his back, but Jesus saw the face of God (John 1:17). In Moses we see how much we need God’s grace; in Christ we see how much God loves us in his grace. (2 Cor 3:18-4: 6). |
