Statement of Faith

Nature of God

  • God is Trinity, in three persons distinct yet one
  • God’s nature is consequently relational, familial
  • God is love
  • Holiness is constituted in the relationships within the Trinity
  • The love of God shared in the Trinity is the basis of creation
  • God is creative and passionate, not austere and distant
  • God has joined himself to his creation in Jesus through incarnation, life, baptism, death, resurrection, ascension and giving of the Holy Spirit
  • Participation in God’s community is only through Jesus Christ

Nature of Humanity

  • Humanity is created in the image of God
  • Humanity is essentially a relational being
  • The first Man, Adam, was tempted and broke relationship with God and thus ceased to be a full human being. The descendants of Adam have inherited this sub-human condition and are by nature dysfunctional and unfulfilled.
  • In this corrupt state Man is polluted by sin, beset by broken relationships, fearful of death and judgement and is given over to the false worship of idols in an effort to replace that which was lost in Adam.
  • God has intervened this human condition in sending his Son, Jesus Christ as a Man for all humanity.
  • He was able, by nature of his purity and holiness, to take on all the power of sin and death on the cross to reconcile God and humanity.
  • Jesus Christ is the second Adam; all humanity is included in the Man Jesus Christ and in him inherits restored relationship to God, forgiveness, redemption, purification and ultimately glorification.
  • God has given his Spirit to enable this transformation.
  • Nevertheless, the redeemed human remains in a corrupt world and is subject to temptation and his own weakness. It is only in Christ that human beings are at one with God.

The Gospel in Action

  • The gospel is God’s declaration and revelation to humanity in the life of his Son Jesus Christ of his intent and call to repentance and faith.
  • Justification is by God’s grace accessed through faith in Jesus Christ
  • There is no access to the community of God except in Christ Jesus
  • Conversion is constituted by repentance, faith, baptism and reception of the Holy Spirit. All believers receive the Holy Spirit at conversion.
  • The Holy Spirit gives assurance of redemption and of the life yet to come
  • A time is coming when all of creation and humanity will be restored in perfect relationship to God and to one another through the gospel.
  • Day of Judgment – people will be judged on their relationship with Jesus primarily, then on their actions

Church Life

  • The Church’s mission is to make disciples not just obtain converts. The goal of the church is to equip men and women for life now and into eternity.
  • Church is primarily the living active community of God on earth, his family.
  • Church is about real and holy relationships. It is not merely about escaping judgement or going to heaven. It is about being a better mum, dad, son, boss, worker or, put simply, it’s about being a human being.
  • Authentic church life is a natural reflection of our beliefs and the personalities of those involved. The culture of the church must not be fabricated on an ideal, rather it ought to be a synthesis of the love of God and the outworking of the same in the community of the believers.
  • All aspects of life are important and affected by the gospel. There is no sacred/secular divide. Reverence isn’t mutually exclusive from the mundane routines of life or from fun and good times.
  • Church is a family – an extended family looking to the singles, widows, the elderly, children, youth and nuclear families. Church provides opportunities for the young to learn from the old and vice-versa, as well as peer friendship opportunities
  • Spiritual gifts are part of the backdrop of Church life in both the spectacular and ordinary modes of operation. God is at work at all times in our lives in all things.
  • Christian growth is measured in relational terms and displayed in Christ-likeness in work, worship and play. Maturity is not a matter of attaining certain moral behaviours, but the desire to know and love God reflected in human relationships.

The Word of God

  • Jesus Christ is the primary Word of God. In Him is seen the intention and purposes of God. The Spirit and the Scriptures bear witness to the Word of God in Christ.
  • The Word of God comes to the church by the interaction of the Holy Spirit with the people of God in the word proclaimed through preaching, song, and prayer, the reading of the written word and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in accordance with the scriptures.
  • The scriptures are the inspired words of God. The written word of God is constituted by what is commonly known as the ‘Holy Bible’ in both the Old and New Testaments.
