Purpose:

The Fish Gate exists to enable God’s people to be the church and to serve the wider community with the gospel of Christ.

The Fish Gate is a Christian community, ideally living in the revelation of the original community of God the Father as seen in Jesus Christ and participated in by the Holy Spirit

The Fish Gate is a middle-ground Christian Church with an Evangelical background with a Biblical and Trinitarian emphasis in theology.

The Fish Gate purposes to be the church in:

Worship

Jesus Christ turns us from the worship of false gods to serve the true and living God.

Priority is given to the proclamation of God’s Word and participation the Lord’s supper signifying our common-union with Father, Son and Holy Spirit and each other, which is underscored and celebrated in song and music.

Worship is inclusive of all ages, cultures and backgrounds. Worship is a natural and authentic expression of our communion and is characterised by service to one another and the wider community.

We believe that Christian worship is a gift from the God of grace, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In worship, God calls his people together in order to serve them by enacting the Gospel. The main focus in worship is to rest in God’s presence. From this resting flows heartfelt thanks and praise to God in word and action.

The purpose of corporate worship is not found in itself, but is worked out in the life of the church in their daily interactions and vocation. Corporate worship is not the end of the week, but the beginning of it. The community of faith is taken out of the world in order to be sent back into it, to participate in the mission of the Lord Jesus as His holy people. God cleanses us from all sin and shares his holiness with us, so that we, in full communion with Him, participate with Christ in his action in the world.

Worship is a foretaste of the future when all the saints will gather together with all the creatures of God at the great feast to celebrate the union of Heaven and earth, God and humanity.

Community

Primarily, the church is God’s Family. All people have a need to belong to the family/community of God. Humanity was created in the image of God who is the primary community of all communities. Consequently, humanity is made for authentic community. The gospel enables people to reconnect to the original community and grow out of selfish individualism. The Fish Gate is committed to enabling people to find their place in the family of God. This commitment is expressed through facilitating fellowship and drawing people from the wider community into God’s family. The Fish Gate is an open community.
